I was in the 283rd Army Band at Ft. Benning in Columbus GA and got to play with John and his valve trombone in 1967-68 in a 5 piece group which played at the officer's club and for OCS graduations. I can't even remember what we called the group, but I think I have a few reel-to-reel tapes in storage which I never had transferred to CD. We played a fair amount of Dixieland and Tijuana Brass (which John transcribed from their recordings). I really enjoyed playing with John and hearing stories about his big band. Richard Buchbinder
